About Course

This course places God at the centre of creation and Christians are seen as stewards of God’s creation. It links biblical principles of creation to the concept of development. The goal of the course is to develop students’ analytical and critical skills of relevant Biblical passages that relate to the sustainable development of the world. Special attention will be given to some of the following themes: Christian theories of development, Biblical and Christ’s teachings that support development, history of Christianity and development, some fundamental challenges in Christianity and development, the structure and functions of Faith-based NGOs in development, the manners and means by which believers are to engage in development and contribute to local, national, global development through their formal and informal economic activities. The course will generally give students the knowledge they need, to further deepen their understanding of Christian faith and regenerative development.

What Will You Learn?

  • By the end of module, a student should be able to:
  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of biblical doctrine on development and used them to promote the sustainable development of the society.
  • Explain why Christianity and development are compatible and provide concrete examples of areas of possible and actual collaborations.
  • Ability to identify and interpret concept in social sciences, biology, agriculture, education, sustainable and regenerative development among others in light of Biblical doctrine.
  • Identify and describe accessible assets and resources relevant for development of their communities.
  • Describe, explain and analyse the nature, function and challenges of collaboration between Faith-Based NGOs and other development actors in the society.
  • Ability to possess a critical understanding of the distinctive role and contributions of Christianity in global development.
